Benny and the Bank Robber was shared with me by the author, Mary Findley It is a good book for children, as there are lessons about life, taught in this historic adventure It is interesting to go back in time and let your imagination take over, to a time where when things were simple Still, some things never change. #Kindle Ç Benny and the Bank Robber á Benny Richardson s widowed mother decides to move to Missouri to live on Uncle Tom s farm but Benny rebels on the journey away from his beloved life in the city and the influence of the university community where his father taught When John Clancy crosses their path and saves them from a sinking barge Benny s mother is seriously injured She begs Clancy to get Benny to Missouri while she stays behind for surgery and recuperation Benny quickly learns that John Clancy carries disguises, a long, sharp knife, and too many secrets to make him a safe traveling companion Benny can t shake the Scripture s promise that God will never leave thee nor forsake thee A card playing, knife throwing bank robber, a savage black stallion, and a cougar evangelist all play a part in Benny s journey to his uncle s farm and a deeper journey into acceptance of God s will when it isn t at all humanly sensible or safe Benny s adventures don t stop once he settles in on Uncle Tom s farm and reunites with his mother His converted bank robber friend Jeremy faces ten years of prison and little hope for the future Benny faces an implacable bully and finds an unlikely friendship and a long lost treasure through his dead father The black stallion Jeremy left in Benny s care turns racehorse but the five hundred dollar prize seems impossible to collect God allows Jeremy to receive training in medicine and preaching while in prison Two surprising revelations when spring comes to the farm one time might turn Benny s life upside down once again From his father, who died in a tragic accident, Benny learned the importance of following the teachings of the Bible After his father s death, Benny and his mother must sell most of their belongings and travel west to live with relatives When Benny almost looses his mother also, he must continue his journey with a stranger, a bank robber named Jeremy While Benny learned a lot from Jeremy, Jeremy also learned a lot from Benny I believe this story would be a perfect Hallmark movie or made for From his father, who died in a tragic accident, Benny learned the importance of following the teachings of the Bible After his father s death, Benny and his mother must sell most of their belongings and travel west to live with relatives When Benny almost looses his mother also, he must continue his journey with a stranger, a bank robber named Jeremy While Benny learned a lot from Jeremy, Jeremy also learned a lot from Benny I believe this story would be a perfect Hallmark movie or made for television movie There were some parts of the book I thought were well done specifically the first scene and the middle of the book but I felt the rest was very lacking The plot, while catching me off guard fairly often, felt random, not fleshed out well enough, and too convenient in many places People changed too much too quicklythan once and the ending was anticlimactic I just wasn t impressed with the writing as a whole or with the story most of the time. Lovely book The book was great It deserves a ten star and recommend to everyone Lots of valuable lessons, book talks about God, just lovelyfull The first part of the book was tragic and engrossing but the second part did not keep my interest and I had to stop when someone was changed overnight after years of secular religion It was too convenient for the book s story but not really believable. Absolutely loved it I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, heart warming story This was very enjoyable to read. been run over in the streets of Philadelphia, Benny 10 and his mother, Abigail, face an uncertain future Benny watches as people visit their apartment, many of them taking things out with them so there is very little left Hope rises when Benny spots his father s spectacles, missing since his death, ground into the foot step of a cart The man is arrested but no monetary compensation is forth coming Much to Benny s disgust, him and his mother start to make the trip west to her brother s farm in Osage, Missouri Benny witnesses part of a bank robbery and that is where we are first introduced to Jeremy in one of his disguises a mean spirited, lying, despicable man that is only thinking of himself.Heading up the river on a barge there is a major mudslide Benny, Abigail and Jeremy are the only known survivors but Abigail has been seriously injured, thought to be dying Abigail, thinking that Jeremy was an upright business man, made him promise to look after Benny and deliver him safe to Osage All Jeremy is interested in is getting as much money as he can as he lost all the gold he stole in the river when the barge sank Even at the age of 10 Benny realizes that God will never leave him or forsake him although what he goes through certainly tests that belief He also realizes that Jeremy does not know God How is he going to know what God wants him to do Throughout Benny has a lot to learn and comes to see that God can does work through anyone Please note that all scripture quoted is from the King James version.Black Switch, a highly spirited, handsome black stallion who loves peppermint sticks is featured throughout the story At first Black Switch will not let anyone but Jeremy near him but over time we see Benny win Black Switch s heart and later in the story they even win a race together Once Benny figures out exactly who Jeremy is and what he has done, Jeremy threatens Benny with his knife and says I guess you do get to go along with me, after all , Benny my boy but somehow I don t think we ll make it to Uncle Tom s Benny, at least once, tells people who he is and what Jeremy has done but nobody believes him as Jeremy is such a good actor Benny cannot run away as he knows that Jeremy will kill him Benny continues to share Jesus with Jeremy even though Jeremy is not interested. One day as they are going along by the river Benny spots a black bag floating Turns out to be the gold bag that Jeremy stole Jeremy goes in after it, nearly drowns only to be saved by Benny and Black Switch Asking why Benny didn t just let him drown he replied You don t know Jesus yet Over time a precarious friendship develops between Jeremy and Benny This is followed by a terrible attack on Jeremy by a cougar Here we are introduced to Doc Daniel who helps nurse Jeremy back to life Doc Daniel is also the local preacher I m not going to ruin the book by telling you how the story continues to develop and ends but just know that this book is EXCELLENT I read it aloud to our 10 year old and as soon as we had finished it he said, We re going to keep this, right Are there anybooks about Benny Although this book is a work of fiction you could well imagine it happening It is not far fetched when you think it was based in the 1800 s You read about real life prison, bullying, family love and commitment, friendships etc.so it is not sugar coated We are going to be reading the rest in the series as although this book does end we are excited to see how the author expounds the characters in the next book and how Benny grows up Highly recommended Ten year old Benjamin Richardson knows how to talk a good game about trusting God and relying on His provision, but can he match actions to words Throughout the course of the tale, he faces many hardships and gets the opportunity to choose to accept the sovereignty of God or give up all hope In the end, he sees how God works all things to good, even apparent disasters.Benny and the Bank Robber is a good piece on to the new setting pretty quickly, but this threw me a bit.Nevertheless, the story is engaging and appropriate for younger audience Benny faces challenges that are realistic for the setting and deals with them in a way that makes reasonable sense for his age He experiences a range of emotions from confidence and doubt to grief and joy The language of the book is generally accessible for upper elementary kids of average reading ability with a few challenging words The chapters are relatively short.Check it out
