I m still pretty doubtful even after reading this book, but it s a very interesting read nonetheless, diving wholeheartedly into a realm of philosophy and spirituality that has become a major part of many religions for centuries My first look at the subject was in the 1970 s film Audrey Rose, but I knew very little about reincarnation until picking up this book. Going Below The Water s Edge Review Engrossingly Thought Provoking Rated 4.5Going Below the Water s Edge covers some very deep and interesting topics The idea of an immortal soul is not new, but really diving into the topic is unique His introduction talks about an iceberg and how most of the iceberg is submerged below water Transferring that concept to the idea that this earth life, as we know it, is only the tip of the iceberg from an eternal perspective is a strong start to the story. He Going Below The Water s Edge Review Engrossingly Thought Provoking Rated 4.5Going Below the Water covers the topic of the immortal soul and discusses reincarnation at length There are a lot of intriguing ideas about what reincarnation is and how it is defined by different religions The book creates thoughtful consideration that maybe our lives are bigger than we think Perhaps we haveto live for than just what is available in this life Perhaps we have existed before we were born and bring a lotto the table than we give ourselves credit for.Being a philosopher myself, I really enjoyed the topic and the ideas that were presented I found myself engrossed in the experiences immediately It was beyond riveting to glimpse such a rich world of splendor, below the surface of the conscious mind To see the power of the subconscious mind at work, and to have it documented so thoroughly was truly mind blowing. He presents this as his personal journey, and recounts hypnosis sessions that were used for self discovery Most of the book is conversations he has with Dr Lar, the hypnotist reincarnation, Fehribach touches upon powerful archetypes in his mind that shape how he views the world and lives his life. The stories themselves aren t organized in any discernible way but I believe his mind had some underlying pattern for revealing the information in the way that it came about At least, towards the last sessions, Fehribach expressed a sense of closure and a tying together of the various strings of thought I like to believe that this is the purpose of any inner exploration to come to know the selfdeeply and resolve any lingering issues that prevent you from living your life to the fullest Though a strong sense of curiosity could bring one to perform these types of experiments, I don t believe that that should be the only reason for doing so Fehribach seems to have a healthy sense of curiosity but also purpose in his explorations I would be interested to see how, if at all, his inner world has changed if he were to go under hypnotic trance today as compared to 1979.Unfortunately for the reader, Fehribach s introductory biography of his life is incredibly rushed He briefly describes coming into synchronicity with a lot of near death experiences, but omits to explore why that led him towards hypnotic regression He includes information about the Search for Bridey Murphy but does not talk about why he felt like that method was the best one for him at that point in his life I wanted to know why he chose that and why at that particular time Was it a calling Inner feeling The closing remarks were a mixture of New Age thought with some personal opinions about the validity and power of his experience I did find his list of relevant thoughts pgs 108 110 to be helpful in organizing the book, but the rest of it felt garbled and his meaning remained unclear to me The last chapter was mainly the text of the Gospel of Thomas with very little of the author s thoughts about that text and why he included it other than the statement, I feel the material will speak for itself Going Below the Water s Edge pg 112 Sadly, for me, it did not.In conclusion, if you enjoyed the hypnotic sessions from The Search for Bridey Murphy or Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, you may want to explore Going Below the Water s Edge If you re looking for aorganized and detailed exploration of the mind, read The Boy Who Died and Came Back Adventures of a Dream to balance our desire for answers, and the sensible among us will always utilise our critical faculties But there is much science cannot answer Going Below The Water s Edge may offer nothing in terms of scientific understanding but it does offer food for thought Perhaps the answer lies in meditation, or perhaps we put ourselves into a susceptible state where our imaginations run wild Who knows Ronald S Fehribach offers his ideas in a very personal manner that makes you want to believe what he is suggesting He touches upon morality, human existence and our wondrous universe with intellectual honesty and naivety I related to this because I have been through the same processes in my own mind.I have learned to remain sceptical towards pseudoscience, no matter how intriguing the premise, and although I am by no means convinced by the possibility of reincarnation, I would not rule it out If we ve lived once then why not 1000 times The best compliment I can give this book is I ve spent a lot of time thinking about it since I ve finished reading, and yet I do not feel any further forward in my journey of discovery But I kind of new that would be the case This book was much shorter than
